Math Coach — Part-Time
LILA Pathways | West Houston / Westchase
$25–$35 per hour | Daytime hours and Saturdays | In person
LILA Pathways, a TEFA-approved educational services provider, is seeking a skilled, encouraging math educator to support high school homeschool pods and college entrance test preparation. We’re looking for someone who can make advanced concepts understandable, strengthen foundational skills, and help teens become confident, independent problem-solvers.
How our program works
Students work in small groups based on their current skills and goals. They rotate through direct instruction at the Coach Table, independent practice, and adaptive digital learning. Every student receives focused teaching time, with instruction adjusted to their progress.
You will lead Coach Table instruction and help students build the mathematical understanding needed for high school coursework and college readiness.
Responsibilities
- Teach high school math, including Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Calculus, and advanced topics.
- Support SAT, ACT, GED, and TSI math preparation through targeted instruction, practice, and test-taking strategies.
- Identify and address foundational gaps that interfere with more advanced work.
- Model problem-solving methods and guide students in explaining their reasoning.
- Adjust instruction for different skill levels.
- Check mastery, address misconceptions, and reteach as needed.
- Monitor independent and digital practice, document progress, and coordinate next steps with LILA’s founder.
- Maintain a respectful, encouraging environment that builds confidence and independence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or an advanced math–focused field, OR a teaching certification appropriate for high school mathematics. MUST be able to be TEFA approved.
- Strong command of high school mathematics and the ability to explain concepts clearly.
- Experience teaching, tutoring, or mentoring teens; small-group experience preferred.
- Familiarity with SAT, ACT, or TSI math preparation preferred.
- Strong organization, communication, and group management skills.
- Dependable availability during daytime hours and Saturdays.
Great Fit For
- Retired certified math teachers who want to keep teaching on a part-time schedule.
- Former classroom teachers who enjoy focused instruction with smaller groups.
- Graduate students in mathematics, engineering, or related fields who already hold a qualifying bachelor’s degree.
- Experienced SAT, ACT, GED, or TSI math tutors who enjoy helping teens prepare for their next step.
- Math, engineering, or STEM professionals with a qualifying degree and a talent for explaining complex concepts.
- Experienced homeschool educators who meet the qualifications and have taught advanced high school math.
If you enjoy working with teens and adults, value genuine understanding, and can teach everything from foundational gaps through calculus, we’d love to hear from you.
